Cultural Tourism and Cultural Design

The Faculty of Philosophy and History at Plovdiv University ‘Paisii Hilendarski' is one of the best friends of ‘Plovdiv 2019'. The MA ‘Cultural tourism and cultural design' trains experts in the fields of cultural tourism and cultural projects. The training aims to give a broader theoretical and practical knowledge about culture as a resource and the nature of the cultural heritage of Bulgaria and Southeastern Europe and its use in the field of tourism and cultural policies.

These young people are willing to help Plovdiv and prove that this is the City - Cultural Capital of Europe 2019.

Annotation

The MA ‘Cultural tourism and cultural design' has been developed for students who have completed undergraduate programmes and who would like to pursue careers in the fields of tourism and culture.

The programme has passed accreditation with the highest score and it aims to give a broader theoretical and practical knowledge about culture as a resource and the nature of the cultural heritage of Bulgaria and Southeastern Europe and its use in the field of tourism and cultural policies. It provides knowledge and the skills required to develop projects in the field of culture and tourism. The practical orientation of the programme allows during training to acquire skills for self-development projects in the field of tourism, but also in social and cultural fields. Along with the programme also provides the learning a foreign language in terms of a specialized vocabulary with which to improve the students' skills for business communication.

The aim of the master's programme is to deepen and specialize the training of BA graduates in Ethnology and / or bachelors from other disciplines and to give an additional profiled and interdisciplinary training in the field of ethnology in order to enhance the student's career prospects in the field of cultural tourism and cultural design.

The mission of training meets the new social and economic conditions in the country caused by the country's accession to the European Union. It aims to give a broader theoretical and practical knowledge of the nature of the cultural heritage of Bulgaria and Southeastern Europe and its use in the field of tourism and cultural policies.

Prospects

Graduates can work successfully in the management and animation of cultural heritage in museums, cultural organizations and the tourism sector. They can work as:

  • Managers of the cultural heritage in museums, state, municipal and non-governmental cultural organizations;
  • Animators of cultural heritage in museums, state, municipal and non-governmental cultural organizations;
  • Guides to museums, state, municipal and non-governmental cultural organizations;
  • Experts in the field of cultural policies for heritage and cultural activities in the state and municipal cultural institutions, non-governmental organizations;
  • Experts in cultural heritage in galleries, museums, community centres;
  • Experts in cultural heritage in the media;
  • Experts in the development, organization and realization of cultural projects related to the socialization and integration of cultural heritage.

How to apply

  • Diploma for a completed BA degree with a grade no less than ‘Good' or a MA degree in all fields of sciences;
    • A letter of motivation;
    • Interview.

Fees: For the master's programme there have been allocated state-sponsored places and students are ranked based on grades, an evaluation of the cover letter and the interview and they will be trained with a fee set by Plovdiv University. Free admission fees: 650.00 BGN per semester.
