Conducting training in "Archaeology" in Faculty of Philosophy and History of Plovdiv University "Paisii Hilendarski" is historically conditioned and driven by the significant archaeological and cultural heritage, preserved in the city of Plovdiv and in the Gorno-trakiiskaValley. The abundance of Prehistoric, Thracian, Antique and Medieval monuments and sites further stimulates and increases the spectrum of scientific knowledge and the possibilities for organizing the learning process. Natural conditions, combined with the traditions of archaeological science at home and abroad, forming the framework of the curriculum and taught courses. Specialty "Archaeology" at Plovdiv University is accredited according to state criteria for degree "Bachelor". The curriculum is consistent with the Ordinance on state requirements for acquiring higher education and educational qualification degrees "bachelor", "master" and "specialist" published in SG. 76 / 06.08.2002, the Ordinance № 21 of 30.ІH.2004, the Ministry of Education to implement a system of accumulation and transfer of credits in high schools. Student education lasts 4 years (8 semesters) It includes mandatory and optional courses and field practice, divided into three modules. Among the major archaeological disciplines are: Prehistoric archeology, Thracian archeology, Antique archeology, Mediaeval archeology and Archaeology of the Bulgarian lands in 15th – 17th c. AD. The main historical subjects are History of Bulgaria, History of the Ancient World, Medieval common history and Common New History. Students learn and upgrade disciplines such as Architectural Archeology, Numismatics, Antique and Medieval epigraphy, Thracology, History of Byzantium, classical languages - Latin or Greek, Old Bulgarian and others.
