Social Anthropology is a university degree course. It positioned within the accredited scholarly field of ‘Sociology, Anthropology and Cultural Studies'. The programme is developed in accordance with the requirements for accreditation and aims at providing a wider spectrum of theoretical and practical knowledge.

The academic courses are based on the understanding of the importance of the issues related to the social organisation of groups, social networks and social hierarchy, socialisation and education, the relationship between genders. Main topics of interest are the political, economic, jurisdictional and technical basis of society and their role in the development of socio-anthropological reality, the models of production, distribution and consumption, the changes in the functionality of contemporary kinship and family structures, communication, as researched in relation to actions, practices and historical contexts, in which the aforementioned are interwoven, the models of sociality and the logic of social behaviour.

Prospects

As a result of this, social anthropologists become good experts, who conduct research on and analysis of problems of social nature. They can apply their knowledge in the realm of sociocultural mediation, which is an alternative method for resolving problems by means of a dialogue and requires a new kind of experts and calls for the establishment of the profession of the mediator. The bachelor degree is structured in accordance with the European standards in higher education related to ethnology and anthropology and provides students with the opportunity to participate in exchange programmes with other European universities.

Upon graduation, those who have chosen a specific module can also receive the qualification of an ‘expert and mediator in the field of education (healthcare), marginal populations/penal institutions'.

Graduates who have obtained the BA degree may work in the field of education and medicine, municipal administrations and informational media; in governmental, private and non-governmental institutions; in the field of scientific research and applied projects. Those who have obtained a BA degree also have the right to continue their education by pursuing a master's degree.
